About NEET 2026 — Exam Pattern, Syllabus & Preparation
NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is the national medical entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It is the qualifying exam for undergraduate admission to MBBS, BDS, and AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy) programmes across government and private medical and dental colleges in India.
NEET 2026 is a pen-and-paper (OMR-based) exam conducted once per year. The test has 200 questions (180 to be attempted) covering Physics (45 questions), Chemistry (45 questions), and Biology divided equally between Botany (45 questions) and Zoology (45 questions). Each correct answer carries +4 marks and each incorrect answer carries −1 mark. Maximum marks: 720.
Biology is the highest-scoring section at 360 marks and the most decisive factor in NEET rank. A thorough chapter-by-chapter reading of NCERT Biology (Class 11 and 12) is the most effective foundation. Physics and Chemistry each contribute 180 marks — Physics rewards conceptual problem-solving while Chemistry has a balance of numerical (Physical), mechanism-based (Organic), and fact-based (Inorganic) questions.
LearnAtMyPlace provides free NEET chapter-wise notes and topic-level practice questions for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology — structured to help students build a subject-by-subject understanding before attempting full-length mock tests.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is NEET and who conducts it?+
NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is the national medical entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It is the single qualifying exam for admission to MBBS, BDS, and AYUSH courses in government and private medical and dental colleges across India.
What is the NEET 2026 exam pattern?+
NEET 2026 has 200 questions (180 to be attempted) — Physics (45Q), Chemistry (45Q), and Biology comprising Botany (45Q) and Zoology (45Q). Each correct answer carries +4 marks and each incorrect answer carries −1 mark. The exam is pen-and-paper (OMR) based with a duration of 3 hours 20 minutes.
What is the NEET eligibility criteria?+
Candidates must have passed Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology as core subjects, with at least 50% aggregate marks (General category). The minimum age is 17 years. There is no upper age limit as per current guidelines.
Which chapters are most important for NEET Physics?+
High-weightage NEET Physics chapters include Mechanics (Units & Measurements, Laws of Motion, Work-Energy-Power, Rotational Motion, Gravitation), Thermodynamics, Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetism, Optics, and Modern Physics (Dual Nature, Atoms, Nuclei). Mechanics typically accounts for 35–40% of Physics questions.
Which topics are most important for NEET Biology?+
Biology carries 90 of the 180 attempted questions and is the highest-scoring section. High-weightage topics include Plant Physiology, Genetics & Evolution, Human Physiology, Ecology, Cell Biology, Reproduction, and Biotechnology. Thoroughly reading NCERT Biology (both Botany and Zoology) chapter by chapter is the most effective preparation strategy.
How should I prepare for NEET Chemistry?+
NEET Chemistry is divided across Physical Chemistry (mole concept, equilibrium, electrochemistry), Organic Chemistry (reaction mechanisms, named reactions, compounds), and Inorganic Chemistry (p-block, d-block, coordination compounds). Physical Chemistry requires numerical practice; Organic and Inorganic Chemistry reward chapter-by-chapter NCERT revision. Aim to solve at least 50 topic-wise MCQs per chapter.
What is the NEET cut-off score?+
The NEET qualifying percentile for General category students is the 50th percentile, which typically corresponds to around 137–145 marks out of 720. For government medical college admissions, you generally need 550+ for a reasonable chance at a good state quota seat. Top government colleges (AIIMS-equivalent standard) typically require 650+.
How many times is NEET conducted per year?+
NEET is conducted once per year. There is no provision for multiple attempts within the same academic year.
